Your business
has grown.
The way it operates
needs to catch up.

The Operating Standard helps founder led companies build the leadership, management capability, decision structure, and operating discipline required to grow without becoming even more dependent on the owner.

Because adding more people, software, meetings, or reports does not fix a business that is still being held together by a few capable people and a heroic amount of founder effort.

The business may be successful.
That does not mean it is built to carry more.

You have clients. Revenue. A team. Managers, perhaps.

And yet, too many decisions still come back to you.

The same problems keep resurfacing. Managers have responsibility but limited authority. Priorities shift faster than the team can absorb them. Work gets done, but often because a few reliable people quietly step in and keep everything moving.

That can work for a surprisingly long time.

  1. Until growth makes it more expensive

  2. Until a key employee leaves

  3. Until margins tighten

  4. Until you want to step back, expand, or eventually sell

The business may not need more structure

It needs the right operating structure, built around how the company actually works and what it needs to carry next.

The Operating Standard Assessment

We assess the company across seven areas that determine whether it can perform, grow, and adapt without excessive dependence on the owner:

Find out what the business can carry, where it is vulnerable, and what needs to change first.

Through leadership interviews, operational review, maturity scoring, and dependency analysis, we identify what is limiting the business.

You leave with:

  • A clear operating maturity profile

  • Founder and key-person dependency findings

  • The most expensive points of friction

  • A prioritized 90-day roadmap

  • A 12-month path toward a more capable company

No generic advice. No software prescription before we understand the problem. No 47 item recommendation dump.

The work is practical.
The results should be too.

Built from years inside founder led businesses

I’m Gwen Taniguchi, founder of The Operating Standard and a Certified Exit Planning Advisor.

I have spent years helping founder-led companies untangle the issues that surface when the business has outgrown the way it is being managed.

That work has included rebuilding operating infrastructure, clarifying roles and decision rights, strengthening management systems, improving workflow and capacity, and helping leadership teams translate growth into a business that operates more reliably.

I’m particularly good at seeing the connection between problems that are often treated separately: leadership behavior, financial decisions, team capability, unclear authority, workflow friction, and founder dependency.

Because the problem is rarely just the process.

And it is almost never solved by another dashboard.

Built for Businesses That Are Past the Basics.

We work with established founder-led companies that have grown beyond informal management but are not interested in adding layers of unnecessary corporate infrastructure.

The work is especially valuable for businesses with:

Characteristics of companies suited for The Operating Standard: $1M–$15M in revenue, an emerging management team, owner-dependent decisions, accountability issues, increasing complexity, or plans for expansion, transition, or sale.

You do need to be willing to look honestly at how the business operates and what must change for it to carry more.

You do not need to be in crisis.

Your business should become more capable as it grows.

Growth should not require more founder intervention, more exceptions, and more dependence on the same handful of people.

If the business feels harder to run than its size should require, we can help identify why and build the path forward.
