I see what a business has learned to work around.
The decisions that always find their way back to the founder. The capable people who still wait for permission.
The processes that technically exist but do not reliably produce the right outcome. The frustration everyone feels but no one has fully explained.
I founded The Operating Standard to help founder-led companies understand what is actually creating dependency, friction, and inconsistency and build the capability to carry more.
My Lens:
Irritation is often a signal.
When something in a business repeatedly feels harder than it should, I get curious.
I look beyond the visible problem to understand what the organization is teaching people to do, where authority and accountability have become separated, what depends on individual effort, and which leadership habits may be unintentionally reinforcing the problem.
I do not begin with the assumption that the company needs more processes, another tool, or different people. Sometimes it does. But first, we need to understand what is actually happening.
Because the person closest to the problem is not always the cause of it—and the system surrounding the work matters.
My work:
I help businesses become more capable, not merely more organized.
My work sits at the intersection of operations, leadership, people, and organizational capability.
As COO and Partner at a Financial Firm, I have helped build the operating infrastructure behind the firm’s growth. Strengthening how work moves, how people take ownership, how decisions are made, and how responsibility transfers beyond the founder.
Across my career, I have worked inside founder-led businesses where growth exposed the limits of informal communication, concentrated knowledge, unclear authority, and founder-held decision-making. That experience shaped The Operating Standard: a practical methodology for building companies that can perform reliably without depending on constant intervention from one person.
Gwen is also a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), bringing a transferability and enterprise-value lens to the work of building a business beyond its founder.
How I Work:
Curious enough to find the real problem. Practical enough to help solve it.
I ask a lot of questions. I listen to the founder, but I also listen closely to the people doing the work.
I pay attention to contradictions, recurring exceptions, quiet workarounds, and the moments when “that’s just how we do it” no longer makes sense.
Then I help turn what we learn into clearer ownership, better decision boundaries, stronger management, more reliable execution, and a business the team is genuinely capable of carrying.
This is not about removing the founder from the company. It is about making their involvement intentional instead of structurally required.
